A woman was hit by a car on Friday morning. At approximately 6:44 a.m. on Friday, November 17, officers came to the intersection of East Wendover Avenue and Willard Street after getting a report of a crash involving an injury.
Someone was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Avalanche westbound on East Wendover Avenue and collided with a deer. After the collision, the driver of the Avalanche turned around to the site and stopped in the far right westbound lane of East Wendover Avenue across from the deer.
55-year-old Wanda McCollum was a passenger in the Avalance. She got out of the truck and walked across the westbound lanes of East Wendover Avenue towards the deer that was lying partially in the road near the median. While McCollum was in the roadway, a man traveling in a 2013 Kia Forte in the far left westbound lane of East Wendover Avenue struck her.
McCollum was taken to a local hospital by EMS where she later died as a result of injuries from the crash. The driver of the Forte was not injured and remained at the scene.
At The Law Offices of Jason E. Taylor, our hearts and prayers go out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Wanda who suffered this tragic loss of life. We share our condolences for this devastating car accident.
