A two vehicle crash Wednesday morning on August 23rd has claimed the life of 47 year-old Betty Bohmer of Woodruff, according to the Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office.
Bohmer was driving and involved in the two-vehicle accident that claimed her life. The incident occurred at the intersection of US 221 and Highway 290 (Moore Duncan Highway) around 7 am yesterday morning. According to troopers on the scene, she was traveling north on US 221 and struck by a truck on the passenger side of her vehicle while attempting a left turn onto Highway 290.
Spartanburg District Five confirmed that Betty Bohmer was a theater teacher at Duncan Elementary School of Arts. She had worked at District Five schools for 23 years, spending the last two at Duncan Elementary.
Duncan Elementary Principal Marc Zachary shared a letter with parents and families addressing the tragic incident. “It is with deep sadness and regret that I’m writing to let you know about the loss of a beloved member of our Duncan family earlier today. The entire Duncan and District Five family is sending its deepest condolences to the family and friends of this beloved educator. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers in the coming days.”
She was beloved by her peers and students alike, taking great pride in her work and helping her students achieve their full potential. The school is providing additional support during this trying time and will have additional counselors available to students and staff at the school for the remainder of the week.
