Fatal Alexander County, NC Car Accident Claims 2 Lives, 1 Injured
Early morning on Tuesday, August 1st, The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to an accident at Vashti Road near NC-16 around 7:15 AM just north of Taylorsville, NC in Alexander County. A Toyota Matrix was driving west when it crossed the centerline, per local news reports who spoke to neighbors who witnessed the crash. This resulted in a head-on collision with a 1993 Dodge Dakota traveling eastbound.
NCSHP reports that the two men in the Dodge Dakota, both from Bethlehem in Alexander County, were Ted Allen Teague, 75-years-old, and 42-year-old Michael Allen Teague. They died at the scene of the accident. Local news confirmed through the troopers that the two men who perished were father and step-son. Meanwhile the driver of the Matrix was helped out of her vehicle and taken to a nearby hospital via helicopter with significant injuries, though non-life threatening.
While impairment was ruled out as a cause, the highway patrol in Alexander County is evaluating the accident to determine if distracted driving was the cause of the head-on crash that took the lives of these Alexander County citizens.
A recently released report by TRIP, a National Research Non-Profit, shows that fatalities from motor vehicle accidents in North Carolina reached 1,667 in 2022. That is a 21% increase compared with 2019.
