A motorcyclist passed away on Thursday morning, September 7th in Catawba County. The incident occurred at approximately 9:45 a.m. on Startown Road at Catawba Valley Boulevard. A 1999 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling east on Catawba Valley Boulevard when the driver neglected to stop at a ride light and drove into the intersection.
A 2011 Ford F-150 going north on Startown Road hit the bike. The driver of the motorcycle, 62-year-old Gary Lee Washburn, of Vale, was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The truck driver didn’t sustain any injuries. The road was closed for about an hour as troopers investigated the scene.
