A crash involving an 18-wheeler resulted in the death of a Leland man early Wednesday morning on October 11th. The collision occurred at approximately 7 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 74-Alternate and West Fifth Street Extension.
a 2016 Freightliner was heading southeast attempting to make a left turn onto U.S. 74 Alternate. A Chevrolet Silverado driven by 65-year-old Mark Smith, from Leland, was heading west on the same highway. Smith’s vehicle collided with the Freightliner. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
Contributing factors have not yet been determined in the crash, police say.
