A fatal collision in Raleigh killed a 55-year-old woman and injured several others on Friday, October 6th. At approximately 12:28 p.m., 58-year-old John Thomas Shugart was driving southbound on Hammond Road when he failed to stop for a red light and struck a car driven by 55-year-old Jamie Deshon Brailsford, who was traveling west on Rush Street.
Brailsford then collided with another vehicle that was driving east on Rush Street. Brailsford was pronounced dead at the scene. A 13-year-old passenger in Brailsford’s car was also injured in the crash. The teen was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Shugart was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the third car that was hit by Brailsford was not injured. Shugart was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and failure to stop at a red light.
The investigation is ongoing.
