A pedestrian was hurt and their dog was killed after being hit by a vehicle. The incident occurred on the 600 Block of North Green Street in Morganton early Friday evening on December 29. At roughly 6 p.m. on Friday, Public Safety Officers responded to the report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. Officers found the man lying in the roadway, along with his deceased dog. The man sustained injuries requiring a helicopter to fly him to a trauma center in Asheville.
The initial investigation showed a vehicle was traveling north on North Green Street and struck the pedestrian, along with his dog as they crossed the street. The dog was fatally wounded upon impact and the driver was not injured.
This incident remains under investigation.
