A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools student was severely injured Thursday morning, September 21st after they were struck by a vehicle while trying to board a bus, the district said. The accident occurred on East Arrowood Road at Arborgate Drive at roughly 8:50 a.m.
The student was struck after running across the street. The stop arms of the bus were not working. The student was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. District officials said the student attends Carmel Middle School.
Police said a large, white SUV was driving at a high rate of speed and hit the student as they ran across the street. The driver of the SUV did not stop after hitting the student. Investigators said the SUV was determined to be stolen and has since been recovered. The driver was not in the vehicle and has not been arrested at this time.
