Three family members, including a 12-year-old boy, passed away and four others were injured in a multi-vehicle wreck at approximately 8 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20th on Highway 24/27 near Bethel School Road in Midland.
A van swerved into oncoming traffic, according to the initial investigation. The sheriff’s office said five people were in the van on the way to their home in Norwood when the driver swerved into oncoming traffic, causing it to hit two other vehicles. Three family members, including the 12-year-old boy, a man named Nicolae Gheorghe, and a woman, were all killed.
Another woman in the van and two other drivers were taken to Atrium Health in Cabarrus County. A medical helicopter was called to the scene of the accident.
Police officers have closed the road for several hours, and the cause of the accident is under investigation.
