Underage Drinking in Macon County N.C. Leads to a Single Vehicle Accident with Four People Injured

This news is to promote awareness around the dangers of motor vehicle accidents in the states of North Carolina and South Carolina. Our team at The Law Offices of Jason E.Taylor has represented thousands of clients who have been the victims of other’s negligence while operating motor vehicles. We deeply understand the profound impacts these accidents can have on so many families and loved ones.

On Thursday, October  20, a bartender in Western North Carolina is among multiple people who are facing charges after at least two underage people were served alcohol and a serious crash followed. The Highlands Police Department notified Alcohol Law Enforcement of a single-vehicle crash involving four people. Three people were taken to area hospitals for their injuries, while one passenger was airlifted for medical treatment.

The driver of the vehicle purchased numerous beverages from 4118 Kitchen and Bar, located at 64 Highlands Plaza, Highlands, NC before getting behind the wheel and causing a crash. The bartender, 41-year-old Ryan Patrick Henry, failed to verify the age of the underage individual. ALE cited Henry for selling alcohol to someone under the age of 21 and one count of allowing violations to occur at an ABC-licensed business.

The driver, 19-year-old Steijn Pieter Drijver, was charged with purchasing alcohol underage and consuming alcohol underage by ALE. Additionally, Highlands Police Department also charged Drijver, with Driving While Impaired, two counts of Felony Serious Injury by Vehicle, and Reckless Driving. A passenger in the vehicle, 20-year-old Rasheem Tyshane McKenzie, was charged with purchasing alcohol underage and consuming alcohol underage.

At The Law Offices of Jason E. Taylor, We extend our prayers to the multiple people facing injuries and wish them a healthy recovery. We share our condolences for this devastating car accident that resulted in multiple injuries Thursday evening in Macon County.
