A man from Lincoln County was killed in a crash while walking over the weekend. The man has been identified as 90-year-old Henry Erson Whitener. On Saturday, October 14 at roughly 11:10 p.m., the North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to Leonards Fork Church Road near N.C. 182 in Lincoln County.
A 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 was driving north on Leonards Fork Church Road when it struck a pedestrian walking in the roadway. Whitener was critically injured and transported by medical helicopter to Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He later passed away on October 15 due to his injuries.
The driver of the Dodge was not injured. During the on-scene investigation, Leonards Fork Church Road was closed for approximately two hours. No charges are expected to be filed in this case.
