One person was killed in a collision on Monroe Road in southeast Charlotte on Sunday night December 10. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to a collision along Monroe Road, near Mason Wallace Park, at approximately 9:30 p.m.
When officers arrived on the scene, they saw a 2007 Nissan Murano with damage to the passenger side and a 2022 Mazda CX-5 with significant damage to the front end. The driver of the Nissan, identified as 43-year-old Hector Domingo Medrano Orellana, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mazda was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to make a full recovery. The initial investigation indicates that Orellana was driving south on Monroe Road when he lost control and crossed the center line, hitting the Mazda head-on.
