A pedestrian was hit and killed while attempting to cross the road in Hickory on Wednesday night January 10. The incident occurred at approximately  6:40 p.m. along Catawba Valley Boulevard Southeast near 21st Street Southeast. The victim has been identified as 56-year-old Michael Squire. Squire was attempting to cross the road when he was struck by a Cadillac SRX traveling westbound on the roadway. The driver did stop and call 911 to report the collision.

The incident remains under investigation.
