A collision killed two people Monday afternoon. The incident happened at approximately 4:10 p.m. on South Emerald Road. A three-wheel moped was traveling south on the road when a commercial truck with a wood-chipping trailer attempted to make a left turn off South Emerald Road onto North Emerald Road in the path of the moped.
The driver of the moped passed away at the scene and the passenger was flown to the hospital for treatment where they later passed away due to their injuries. The Greenwood County Coroner’s Office identified the driver of the moped as 66-year-old Gregory Jon Smith and the passenger as 60-year-old Joanne Warren Williams.
